As I talk with people around town, it becomes clear to me that avoiding a conversation with me about video games (like the Wii or Wii Fit) is considered a no brainer. Not unlike the old adage – “never talk politics or religion with friends, especially the parent of the kids I train will avoid talking about video gaming like the plague.

I must admit, it’s probably for good reason. I’m the guy who always preaches about being outside and playing as opposed to sitting and playing Wii, Xbox or any video game.

But why? In an effort to explain my apparent dislike for, and especially, Wii and Wii Fit I have come up with my top 5 reasons why Wii and Wii Fit are not at all what we want our kids engaged in.

As you read through my top 5 keep in mind ONE very important factor. The goal for our kids is for them to develop as complete human beings.

The visual “world on the TV is two dimensional and we live in a 3D environment. Neurologically our kids young brains are still processing how to deal with reaction to visual stimulus. There is a big difference between what is on a flat screen and out on the soccer field, basketball court or even in a game of tag.

Social interaction while gaming is limited at best. Sure some gaming systems have the ability to communicate with others via the internet. Much of social interaction is communication in order to cooperate, build relationships, learn from one another, mirroring, skill developement etc. A child cannot get this from a game on TV. Part of social interaction and communication is touching. Did you know that ONLY 7% of communication is verbal?

Learning physical skills. I have seen first hand, a child who has engaged in playing a sport on the Wii try to assimilate the same skills in a real life game. It simply does not seem to transfer well at all.

Coordination is a learned set of skills. Balance, reactivity, rhythm, kinesthetic differentiation, and spacial awareness are all aspects of coordination. In young children these skills are and should be learned through play.

Creativity. Need I say more?

This list is neither a condemnation of Wii and Wii Fit, nor is it a complete list of why I believe it is not beneficial for our kids to engage in these activities.

I often hear “well I just thought it was a better alternative compared to other video games”. In my opininion there is not a better alternative than giving my kids the BEST chance of success to develop during the most crucial times of their lives.

I welcome and encourage you to leave your comments or thoughts.

This is not the first post I have written on this subject, and it won’t be the last.

There’s nothing worse than getting ripped off.

To invest your hard earned money on a product that promises results that aren’t delivered. That’s how millions of new Wii Fit owners are feeling right now, and I don’t blame them.

The Wii Fit is marketed as the latest and greatest way to lose weight and be fit. The specialized Nintendo is supposed to do the job of your gym, your treadmill and even your personal trainer.

That’s a lot of pressure for a video game. With all the buzz surrounding the Wii Fit, I decided that some research was in order.

What is this Wii Fit, and how is it qualified to get you into the best shape of your life? The Wii uses television and a wireless “balance board” that is about two feet wide and half as deep. The board is basically a fancy scale, which measures your weight and detects your equilibrium. To play Wii Fit, you stand on the board and do a series of games that fall into one of four categories: aerobics, balance, strength, and yoga.

My research did turn up some cases of documented weight loss as a result of Wii Fit play time.

In each case the person went from a sedentary lifestyle (basically a couch potato) and saw weight loss after doing the Wii Fit for 30-60 minutes per day. Walking for 30-60 minutes per day will give the same results.

To really understand the purpose of this product I did a search on Shigeru Miyamoto, he’s the creator of the Wii Fit. What he said may shock you.

“I don’t think Wii Fit’s purpose is to make you fit; what it’s actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body,” he said. “That’s why we wanted people to talk with their families about Wii Fit, and become aware of these things together as a group.”

The purpose of the Wii Fit is not to make you fit?!

But what about the marketing pieces that are telling you to use the Wii Fit as your one-stop shop for fitness and weight loss? What about the people who purchased a Wii Fit with the hopes of losing 30 lbs? It’s time to call the Wii Fit what it really is: a video game…entertainment, and that’s it.

Don’t get me wrong, the Wii Fit is a fun, interactive game that gets you to burn more calories than you would just sitting on the couch. People enjoy playing it with their kids and it sure beats lounging on the couch watching T.V.

But it’s just like the creator of the product said; it’s not intended to make you fit. Sure, it may be marketed that way but that’s not what it’s for and that’s not what it does. Don’t sell yourself on the idea that a video game will get you into great shape. Play the Wii Fit. Enjoy the Wii Fit.

Burn a few calories with the Wii Fit. And then contact me for a workout that will truly change your life and get you the body that you want, because all of my programs were created with the purpose of getting YOU fit.

You can quote me on it.

No short cuts. No games. Win.

There are billions of dollars spent each year on meal and dietary supplements, from vitamins to protein bars and even those magic weight loss pills sold over the counter (are you sick of those yet?).

The most important thing you need to understand, how is what you are taking really benefiting or supporting your overall fitness or health goals. Make sure you READ the labels and look for clean products that still support a healthy meal plan.

Multivitamins can be excellent choice to fill in any nutrient holes from your eating plan and sometimes protein powders as well as protein supplements can help support, a busy lifestyle. Be careful. I am willing to bet that there is not a supplement company out there that won’t tell you that their product isn’t the best – ever. On top of that they will have “studies” to prove their points.

Take the time to investigate what is true and what is not. If you don’t have the time…either don’t buy it or find someone else to do it for you.

You can also do what I did. I found a company that made a line of product that I would have if I had the time and resources.

As professionals in the fitness industry we all have our favorites. Mine is http://everyone.getprograde.com.

Do your homework. Eat Well. Win.

Being thankful will not only change your mood but change your health. All to often I hear complaints of being too fat or out of shape. Sure there are millions upon millions of people NOT experiencing life with perfect body. You might be one of them.

Diets, workouts, supplements, workout equipment and the like are all part of a growing industry called Health and Wellness and it is fast on its way to being a TRILLION dollar market place. We spend like crazy for that smaller dress size or bigger pecs.

Have you ever been thankful for what you do have and thankful for the fact that you can change it? Are you thankful for other aspects of your life.

I challenge you to think of one thing you are thankful for and write it down. “Uhhhh, hhhhhmmm, well I guess I’m thankful for……”
Great! What you will find is that you will think of a second thing, then a third – then many many things.

Did you know there have been studies that found when people kept what is called a Gratitude Journal the results where that of increased immune funtion and many other PHYSICAL benefits!

It is a well know fact that the limbic system in the brain mediates emotion and movement. It is not much of a stretch to find the connection between being thankful and overall health.

Go ahead…take a few minutes and do it right now. All your worries, to do lists, and problems will be here when you get back.

**

**

**

**

**

So how do you feel? Do you feel happier? Lighter? More alive?

This is a wonderful exercise to do each morning when you wake (instead of checking email), or at night when you go to bed.

Want to know the magic part?

When you continually express the discipline of gratitude you will not only be happier, but healthier and I bet you that you will start to achieve more in your life.

Start a gratitude jounal today.

It’s your choice.

Be thankful. Workout. Win.

I have great respect for Jayson Hunter. As many of you know (because his program is the ONLY one I promote) I have had tremendous results with my clients and Jayson’s Carb Rotation Diet.

Jayson had already created a terrific program that can be followed 90% of the time – FOR THE LONG HAUL. With that said I come from the school of thought “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”. I think Jayson might have lost his mind, sorry…still love ya Jayson but it’s true.

Why am I saying this?

Jayson is giving away the farm, and the kitchen sink and what ever other phrase you can come up with.

This is just the beginning:

1) 30 Day Weight Loss Made Easy Meal Plan – Jayson charges $200 for a custom weight loss meal plan, but you get one for FREE with the Carb Rotation Holiday Special!

2) 90 Full Days of unlimited email support – Look, we know you’ve probably been burned before buying something on the Internet. You make your purchase, you’re all excited and then you have ONE simple question and you can’t get in touch with anyone. Sound familiar?

Well, that’s not the case with Jayon. He’s conservatively valued this special bonus gift at $99, but to me it’s priceless. You’ll be supported by Jayson every step of the way as you lose pounds and inches. Any questions you have will be answered by Jayson personally.

3) A twenty minute phone consultation with Jayson - Jayson charges $150 for an hour of his time, so this special bonus gift is easily worth $50. If you’ve ever wanted to talk to a registered dietitian who has helped thousands of men and women get rid of the unwanted belly fat, well, now is your chance to do it a fraction of the normal cost!

That’s not it! There’s more. Much more! As in 14 other bonuses worth hundreds on top of a crazy price for the Carb Rotation Diet.

Jayson must of come to his senses because he is only giving us 2 Days to take advantage of his unbelievable offer!

Before it’s too late check it out for yourself:
