After humbling myself to the point of apologizing to you for being a jerk on fitconnect.com, I have to hand you the torch for A)actually having a website that, so far, hasn't torched my hard drive with viruses and B)bashing Nintendo's Wii 'Fit'. I consider any videogame that its producers call a workout an oxymoron.

In Men's Health magazine, scientists were reported as having found Wii 'fit' only burns around 10 to 20 calories an hour on average..slighly more than sitting on your gluteus maximus, medium and minimus and working our thumb to flip through Cinemax channels. When my clients here (I work for free, as a trainer on a college campus for volunteer hours to get into grad school) suggest nonsense like that 'sport'. I laugh and ask them if they've ever broken a sweat watching t.v. (sex on the couch while watching Sex and the City or Survivor doesn't count).

After they reply, "No?", I make them train so hard they're shaking afterwards (I know about blood glucose levels, low and high risk individuals and make sure they tell me about pre-existing conditions beforehand). Nice bash on Wii 'fit'.

The Wii Fit is an excellent marketing tool. Even if it doesn't help people to lose a lot of weight, the idea of it getting people into thinking about exercise more in their daily lives is a great aspect of the product. Anything to get our children (and adults!) away from the couch or computer desk and being more active, is a great product to promote and use.
